Why do I need to complete an identity verification?
Identity verification is required by Swiss law for anyone opening an investment account. It is there to protect you and your assets by making sure the account is opened by the right person.
Is this safe?
Yes. We use fidentity, a certified Swiss identity verification provider. The verification process is encrypted and follows strict security and data protection requirements.
Your data is used only to verify your identity for your Selma account and to meet the legal requirements for opening and maintaining a regulated financial account. Fidentity deletes the personal data from the identification process within 30 days after completion, as far as legally permitted.
Selma retains the required records under strict Swiss data protection rules.
How does the verification process work?

Selfie check
You will be asked to take a few selfies. 📸 This helps confirm that you are physically present.
Scan your ID document
You will scan your passport or ID card and move it slightly so the camera can capture all security features.
Verification
Fidentity checks your identity and confirms it with us.
This usually takes just a few minutes.
Digital signature
Once verified, you can digitally sign the contracts directly online.
And that's it on your side! ✔️
Shortly after, the signed documents will be available in your Selma account.

How long does it take?
The identification process itself takes around 5 to 10 minutes.
Verification is usually finalised within a few minutes afterwards. If you complete it outside business hours, confirmation may follow on the next banking day.
What if I do not want to complete the online verification?
To open your investment account, identity verification is required.
Without it, we're unfortunately not allowed to activate your account. If you run into any technical issues along the way, our support team is happy to help.
